Lesson 1: Termistop Flange Installation

Lesson one demonstrates how to install a standard Termistop flange properly. Watch the video to learn the process, then follow the step-by-step instructions to review the key points.

This video shows the steps involved in selecting and installing a standard Termistop flange.

Step-By-Step: Installing a Termistop Flange

Termistop Flange with details

STEP ONE: Select the correct sized Termistop flange to fit the service penetration.

STEP TWO: Carefully remove or reposition any tape, insulation or obstruction from the service penetration.

STEP THREE: Enlarge the Termistop opening by unscrewing the clamp tightening screw with a nut driver to allow easy fit over the top of the pipe.

Position the flange and tighten the clamp

STEP FOUR: Slide the Termistop over the pipe and down to the center of the slab. Metal-to-metal contact may cause the reinforcement to corrode over time.

Make sure that the Termistop does not touch the steel reinforcement. If contact appears likely, apply a coat of non-leaded spray paint to the area where the Termistop will touch the reinforcement. Be careful not to spray the Termistop.

STEP FIVE: Tighten the clamp to secure the Termistop to the penetration. Be careful not to overtighten the clamp, as this could strip it and render it useless.

STEP SIX: Lift the skirt to be approximately 15 degrees above horizontal.

STEP SEVEN: Refit or reposition any removed tape, insulation or other obstructions. It is extremely important that everything is replaced to its original condition and position.

STEP EIGHT: We recommend applying one layer of Termitape above the concrete level to alert other trades that Termistops have been fitted on these pipe penetrations.

FINAL INSPECTION: Perform a final inspection of the slab to ensure that all foundation penetrations with soil origin or contact through the slab and into the structure have been protected.
